Freshers’ Week 2008

Freshers’ Week has been fantastic, an absolutely huge success for the Society! After our weekend in Trinity Halls, we spent the week throwing a number of events for the new students, including speed dating, giant twister and a pub crawl. We gave away a Nintendo Wii to the winner of our Wii tournament, and hired a mechanical rodeo bull to give freshers the ride of their lives. We added thousands of new names to our membership list, and signed up a record number of students for our Maidens debating competition.

Over the course of Freshers’ Week, we gave honorary patronages to Chris Blackwell, the founder of Island Records, and actors Jonathan Rhys Meyers and John C McGinley. East 17 made a special appearance at Club Philth, our annual club night, and we welcomed newcomers to the society with a lively comedy debate, on the subject “That Porn is a Blow for Freedom”. Throughout the week we hosted a number of bands, and provided free lunches everyday courtesy of our friends at Just-Eat.ie.
