The Honorary Patronage of Chris Blackwell…

On Friday the 2nd of October, renowned music producer Chris Blackwell was awarded the Society’s Honorary Patronage.

In 1960 with an initial investment of just $1000 Chris Blackwell founded what would later become Island Records. Over the next four decades Island would become one of the most successful independent labels of all time, bringing such superstars as Bob Marley and U2 to the listening public.

During his interview, Blackwell discussed how he signed up personalities rather than acts, his admiration for Grace Jones and about the time that he once asked Miles Davis why he played so many wrong notes.
